Bom pra cachorro

Danish postal workers - 25 tonnes dog biscuits
Life as a Danish postal worker can be somewhat troublesome – particularly delivering to properties with dogs. Dog biscuits help.

In 2008, Danish postmen and women handed out some 3,000 boxes – or 25 tonnes of biscuits to demanding dogs, in order to let them deliver the mail without having to face scary bared canines. “Dog biscuits are a good way of protecting our employees against being bitten. Dogs are easier to handle when they’re given a treat,” PostDanmark Safety Manager Ebbe Andersen tells Ritzau. Nonetheless, last year, 335 postal workers were attacked and bitten by dogs, resulting in 45 having to go on sick leave, with 18 postal workers off work for more than three days. “Dog bites are a major problem. A dog bite ranks alongside other threats and can develop into a lifelong fear of dogs. It is something that we view very seriously,” Andersen says.
